My Journey
Hello – my name is Amy deGroot. My interest in Reiki started in 2015 when my husband was offered Reiki at the University of Vermont Health Center where he was receiving radiation for neck cancer. I asked to observe the session. It looked easy enough to do; my interest was piqued.
I had no idea how to get trained until two years later when I saw it offered at the local high school as part of their adult class series. Taking the class proved to be one of the best decisions I have made. Here’s why:
My husband’s cancer migrated to his lungs. Our lives were once again upended. He regularly asked me for Reiki to help him find a sense of well being while he battled the hounding fear and discomfort from lung cancer. I was so grateful to be able to help him with my own two hands. In addition, I regularly used Reiki for myself to manage my anxiety.
As I watched other couples sitting in doctor’s waiting rooms who shared a similar fate, I became keenly interested in becoming a teacher. Reiki is so useful- more people need to start using it, and I want to spread the awareness!
Reiki then helped me with my grief over the loss of my husband, and with it, I began to appreciate the spiritual benefits from my Reiki practice.
Now I regularly use Reiki to clear physical aches and pains from my everyday activities.
During the Pandemic I began offering Distance Reiki to people as a way to help restore a sense of relief. All manner of issues were improved- physical aches and pains, emotional difficulties and mental stress. I never cease to be amazed at the incredible outcomes!
My recent passion is to teach individuals how to help themselves and others with Reiki. With years of experience as a math teacher and tennis coach, teaching Reiki is a natural fit for me. I am pleased to be part of the Usui - Hayashi - Takata - Brown - Goslen - Jefferis - deGroot Reiki Lineage.
